The month of May is filled with a couple national holidays and celebrations that are kind of a big deal. May 11th is Mother’s Day and May 26th is Memorial Day. Taking two days out to remember some of the most amazing people each of us individually and as a nation have be blessed with makes May a big month.

However, there’s more!

Did you know the first week of May is also National Nurse’s Week? Or that the third week of May is National Police Week? Week 4 is Medical Services Week? There’s a whole lot of opportunity to support and encourage those who are constantly serving in the heat of the moment situations: moms, soldiers, nurses, police, EMTs and paramedics.

This month, why don’t you seize the opportunity to tie your troops in with the events to give your youth an opportunity to show their appreciation?

Sunbeams – Try out the First Aider or Safety First emblem.

Girl Guards – Check out the Community Health & Safety emblem.

Explorers – You can try the Fire Safety or First Aid emblem.

Rangers – Why not give Life Saving or Emergency Preparedness emblem a go?

Moonbeams – Let the younger children join in with the Helper or Stay Safe emblem.

These emblems are all compatible and listed on the emblem compatibility chart as well, so join the ranks, work together, take a trip to tour a fire house, place a call to get a local police officer or K-9 unit to come talk to your kids (it’s almost shockingly easy to coordinate a visit – give it a try), and then make sure you thank all of the first responders in some way, shape or form (Cards? Cupcakes? Cookies?).
