Salvation Army helps local victims of recent house fire

HUNTSVILLE — This is the time of year when people come together and express thanks for the many blessings in their lives.

Thanks to a generous donation from the Salvation Army and with the help of Adams Furniture, one Walker County family will have a roof over their heads and a soft place to sleep after they lost everything in a fire last week.

Local volunteers Shirley Hardy and LuVenia Owens said Thursday that the Salvation Army has helped the family of Barbara Yeager get an apartment. The Yeagers lost their home, which was built in 1935 on Sterling Chapel Road, when sparks from a barbecue pit ignited a fire on the back porch.
